The Ministry of Health in collaboration with Nigeria National System of Cancer Registries (NSCR) held a Training Workshop of Registry Directors and Registry Registrars on Cancer Registration, which took place between the 29th and 30th of November, 2016 at Kebbi Hotel and the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) training room in Abuja, Nigeria.
The training was organized with the objective of training and equipping selected cancer registrars on Cancer registration methods and how to be effective and efficient in data abstraction, collation, coding and analysis.
The training began with an opening address from Dr. R. Hassan, followed by the introduction of the NSCR website by Prof. Clement Adebamowo and a key note address by the representative of the Minister of Health, Dr. Dalami Sanpada; the Director of clinical services in the Federal Ministry of Health. The Minister acknowledged the NSCR and IHVN and their effort towards providing efficient cancer registration, stating that cancer registration remains the key in providing information and data about cancer incidence, which can be used for public health program planning and cancer control. He also appreciated the effort of the cancer registrars and their directors.
The resource persons include: Prof. Clement Adebamowo – IHVN Abuja, Prof. Ezeome, Eric Chokonunga – AFRCN/Zimbabwe Cancer Registry, Dr. Elima Jedy- Agba- IHVN Abuja, Dr. Micheal Odutola – IHVN Abuja, Dr. Abidemi Omonisi and Ms. Temitope Olukomogbon – IHVN Abuja.
The training was attended by 21 Cancer Registry Directors, 32 Cancer registrars, 5 participants from the Ministry of Health and 5 resource persons. A total of 24 cancer registries were represented.
